Bering Sea Gold

Our friends Ian and Scott Foster will be famous soon on the new Discovery Channel Show Bering Sea Gold will air Jan. 27, 2012.  I'm excited for them.  Ian and Scott often have dinner with us when they are living in Nome.  They are on the dredge Sluicey.  I'm also a fan of Emily Riedel and Zeke Tenoff on the Clark and went to school with Shawn Pomerenke on the Chistine Rose.

Here's some snap shots of the show...

This is going to be a great show.  I'm so excited for them.

I don't know who these guys are but I'm sure I will.

Alaska's Super Storm in Nome, Alaska

In Nome, Alaska on 11/9/11 between 2pm-5pm after a blizzard with 60 mph winds that occurred the night before. First part of video shows East End Front Street at around 2:30 where the waves were getting high a few hours later same road but shooting from a friends balcony on Front Street with the road torn up. Snap shots are of my neighbor's roof, my car that someone or something ran into during the blizzard, other cars that ran off the side of the roads. At 3 minutes West Beach where miners have there cabins. Water has risen to their cabins and there was a road that is now non-existent, this shot taken at about 2:30pm before high tide at 5pm. A friend of ours who lives in one of those cabins moved to our house he night before, good thing he did. Shots of Bering sea and front street and last one is of a tired seal on the the snake river resting from being tossed by waves in the Bering sea, shot was taken on our way to West Beach on Airport Rd.

Oh and I'm FAMOUS! check out this video of my interview with right this minute click on the link:

Pass the whale blubber...

My dear friend Sherry shared with me some of her native foods.  She is Siberian Yupik originally from Gambell.  From top to bottom here are the following mangtak (raw whale blubber), cooked walrus meat, qesni (cooked walrus boob) on the right, and manguna (cooked walrus skin).  Growing up in rural Alaska this is common food.  I've never been fond of mangtak also known as muktuk the white is the fat part and the black is the humpback whale skin which is like chewing through leather.  Walrus meat isn't so bad, it's kinda like a fishy tasting beef.  Qesni is more fatty, and manguna is kinda like cartiliage.

The King and I

A movie trailer I made using the iMovie on the iMac.  Love it!
